LG and Microsoft have reached an agreement under which Microsoft’s new mobile OS will become LG’s primary operating system for its smart phones, appearing on more than 50 devices. The announcement came at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Monday, the New York Times reported.

Previously, Windows Mobile had only appeared on one LG phone. The new Windows Mobile 6.5 will debut later this year.

Microsoft also announced that it will open a rival application store to Apple’s App Store. The Windows Marketplace will feature 20,000 applications.
