Microsoft was dealt a legal setback Tuesday when a federal court upheld an earlier ruling that its Word software violates a patent by a Canadian company. According to the New York Times, the software giant must pay $290 million in restitution to Canadian software firm $290 million, and stop selling the offending software by January. However, the company said it will develop a workaround in order to continue selling the software after the Jan. 11 deadline.
