The outage was caused by a Y2K-like bug which caused the system to read the year 2010 as a leap year, therefore leading to confusion when Feb. 28 became March 1. The outage not only affected online games, but some already-downloaded, offline games as well.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Sony wrote on the blog.
An outage that affected many Sony PlayStation consoles, as well as the PlayStation Network, for close to 24 hours has been resolved, Sony announced on its official blog Tuesday.
