Cliff Richards and the Shadows never got the reception here in the states that they enjoyed in the U.K., but that hasn't impacted the band's longevity, as they celebrate their 50th anniversary on this new DVD. Purported to be their “Final Reunion” (whatever that means), this DVD was shot in London's 02 arena (site of the recent Led Zeppelin reunion) before 15,000 ecstatic fans. Best known in our country for his 1970s solo hits including “We Don't Talk Anymore” and “Suddenly”, Richards, nearing 70, is still in fine voice, and is joined by three members of his 1950s and 1960s backing group The Shadows here for a long (over two hours) set of 42 oldies and covers. It's all a bit corny, but unquestionably immaculately played and well sung. Hank Martin is a standout on lead guitar. Unobtrusive camera work and a well-balanced sound mix make this an enjoyable, old-timey rock 'n' roll show.
