Revenue from the web-to-TV video market will reach $17 billion in revenue by 2014, with 57 million households viewing such video on TV, research firm In-Stat said Tuesday.
That revenue number was estimated at $2 billion for last year.
The expected growth was attributed to a growth in the amount of broadband households and web-enabled consumer electronics devices, as well as the coming rise of “hybrid” set-top boxes.
“The over-the-top (OTT) video market represents a new distribution channel for digital entertainment. Content producers want to market premium video content directly to the consumer,” Keith Nissen, In-Stat's principal analyst, said as part of the announcement.
