The new Luna5 iF500-Encore all-in-one audio system from Edifier, showcased at the CEA Line Shows in New York City in June at just under $300, provides the listener with a docking station for iPod, iPhone and other MP3 players, a digital FM radio – and the opportunity to start a conversation about its eye-catching globe design.

This one-piece system, with a molded base that is available in a choice of glossy black or white finish, uses an acoustically isolated combination base/control panel and a round speaker panel with an elliptical profile. Its speaker panel packs quite a punch, bundling, as it does, a 5.75-inch bass driver, two specially housed 2.75-inch midrange drivers and two 1-inch tweeters. Its drivers are powered by two Class-D digital amps; a 30-watt amp powers the bass driver and a 22-watt amp funnels power to the midranges and tweeters.  The system includes special vibration and resonance control along with low-frequency porting and midrange-tuned cavities, says the company.

As it its unique shape were not enough to impress, when the user touches the illuminated power button, the base glows red, revealing a complement of keys that control power, volume, track advance/FM station scan and input selection functions. www.edifier-international.com.
