Monster Cable became the first company to announce for market introduction a version of active 3D glasses system that it says will work with any brand of 3D TV.
The Monster VISION Max 3D Active 3D Eyewear System is due to hit retail shelves in August, according to the announcement by Monster founder and principal Noel Lee, made on Day One of the New York City-held CEA Line Shows Tuesday.
Lee said the Monster system is RF-based; it uses a transmitter, and does not require the wearer to be in line of sight of the 3D television it is being used to view. The system is powered by a lithium-polymer battery and will run for 800-plus hours on a single charge.
One pair of glasses, bundled with a transmitter, carries an SRP of $249.95; additional glasses are available for $169.95; and the 3D transmitter is available for $59.95 separately.
Another company announcement highlight was the partnership of Monster with Disney. Monster will release a special TRON-inspired high-end headphone to coincide with the December 17 release of the Disney 3D feature film TRON. On hand for the announcement made together with Lee was Sunny Lauridsen, senior category manager for Disney Electronics.
The company also introduced several other products, including:
• A series called Monster Advanced HDMI cable that is rated for high speeds up to 17.8 Gbps;
• A USB 3.0 ultra-high-speed USB cable that Lee said exceeds USB specs;
• A mini version of the company’s popular Outlets to Go three-outlet travel solution equipped with two rapid-charging USB ports;
• An iPad-oriented version of its screen cleaner called CleanTouch, said to resist fingerprint marks and kill microbes on the device ($19.95);
• A new line, Clarity HD, that includes “high-definition” headphones optimized for listening to classical music; two Bluetooth-compatible mini speakers – one for BlackBerry devices, smartphones and notebooks and the other for iPhones, iPods and iPads; and an executive docking speaker system using Clarity HD technology.
