OnStar will incorporate Google's Android technology into applications for the new Chevrolet Volt, General Motors announced Thursday. The technologies will include a navigation tab on the Chevy Volt Android app, as well as voice-activated Google searches.
The new functionality will be demonstrated later this week at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco.
“While OnStar will never lose sight of our core focus on safety and security, this relationship is an example of how we're evolving our leadership position in connected vehicle technology,” Chris Preuss, OnStar's president, said as part of the announcement. “What we're talking about today is only the beginning.”
