Sprint Nextel has announced the expansion of its handset recycling program. According to the Kansas City Business Journal, the company will now allow customers to trade in devices from all carriers and manufacturers.

The change was announced by CEO Dan Hesse during a Congressional hearing this week. He added that the company's goal is to recycle 90 percent of Sprint phones by 2017.

Under the new plan, customers can exchange up to three devices within a one-year period. The refunds are available in both Sprint stores and on the company Web site.
