Amazon announced Monday that it is working on a program which will allow for online trading-in of consumer electronics. According to the Financial Times, the system will work on a goods-for-Amazon-gift-cards model.
The plans were discovered when Amazon placed a job advertisement for software engineers to help the company “help facilitate the pairing of new owner with device, while also creating an open marketplace.”
Several major retailers of CE, including Best Buy, Walmart and Target, already operate a similar service, usually through partnerships. Amazon had already launched such a program with the help of CExchange.
