With the Cue Radio Model r1 Table Radio iPod/iPhone dock, Cue Acoustics has created one of the better offerings available in its product category, one worth its $399 price tag. The product looks and sounds great, and is easy to use as well.

The product, retailing for $399.99, is an all-in-one AM/FM radio, iPod/iPhone dock and alarm clock. That's not exactly a brand-new combination, but the Model r1 differentiates itself with some key features.

First of all, the product's form factor is excellent. It's got a simple design- screen on the left, three nobs in the middle, and speaker on the right- that is also smooth and stylish. The player weighs just six pounds, and aesthetically it's a strong match for Apple's own look.

The sound on the device is also stellar, thanks to a CueSonic speaker which sports a D2 audio digital amplifier with built-in DSP. There's even a sound equalizer offering multiple modes, including Rock, Classical, Jazz and more- the kind of feature not often seen much anymore.

Another great thing about the Cue Radio Model r1 is that it displays song metadata on-screen when in iPod mode, something many docks in the category don't do. This allows the user to easily scroll through their playlists, artists and albums while looking at the screen. In addition, the screen displays song and radio station while in radio mode.

The device's setup is simple, and its scroll-through interface, no matter the mode, isn't hard to navigate. The product's remote control is also easy to use, and works from 25 feet away- once again, something that not all iPod docks offer. And the product's instruction manuel is both easy to understand and artfully laid out.

The Cue Radio Model r1 Table Radio iPod/iPhone dock is available in solid black as well as a black-and-white version. It comes with an antenna, and a dedicated satellite speaker for the device is sold separately for $99.

No, it doesn't have everything- there's no access to satellite or HD radio, doesn't play CDs, and doesn't play video from your iPod or iPhone. But the Cue Radio Model r1 is one of the best products of its kind, performing virtually every one of its functions at a high level.
