The Dallas Cowboys’ new billion-dollar stadium has as its signature feature a 160-foot long, 90-foot high Mitsubishi-designed scoreboard, hanging high above the field, which is advertised as the world’s largest. But in the first game played at the stadium Friday, it got in the way of the ball.
According to ESPN.com, a ball kicked by punter A.J. Trapasso struck the scoreboard and fell directly to the field. According to the stadium’s ground rules, the play was whistled dead and the ball re-kicked.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones vowed after the game that the scoreboard does not need to be raised or moved as a result of the incident.
