The company that owns the Slingbox is planning to license the Sling place-shifting technology to third parties, including television manufacturers and set-top box providers, Cable Digital News reported.
Echostar, which purchased Sling Media in 2007, is negotiating with various cable and technology companies, the site said. Until now, the Sling technology has only appeared on Sling- and Echostar-branded boxes.
The move was announced at the American Cable Association’s Independent Show, in Grapevine, Tex.
