I had heard a lot of great things about this Blu-ray player and was really looking forward to reviewing it. I was certainly not disappointed!

Right out of the box, it didn’t take long at all for the LG BD370 Blu-ray player to upload discs. For this review, I viewed a copy of Slumdog Millionaire, and it only took 14.17 seconds for the disc to load. Not too shabby. Most of the images in Slumdog were really well-defined. DVD up-scaling was fantastic and the Blu-ray picture quality was excellent, the images clear and crisp.

Motion within action scenes was smooth and without jagged edges. In addition to providing BD-Live 2.0 support, I love the fact that the BD370 has the ability to play YouTube videos, as I am a total YouTube junkie. This is a great feature that is connected to the Internet via the included Ethernet port. The user-friendly on-screen keyboard allows you to customize your YouTube searches.

The BD370 also allows you to view Netflix content, but you will need a Netflix account to access this feature and a PC to browse the list of available movies. As with most Blu-ray players, the BD370 is also able to play music, movies and display photos through the USB 2.0 port and, like most digital picture frames, enables you to view photos while enjoying your favorite tunes.

I would definitely recommend this entry-level Blu-ray player to anyone as it provides great images from both Blu-ray discs and DVDs at a reasonable price point. MSRP for the BD370 is $299.95. LG will be coming out with a new and improved Blu-ray player, the BD390, within the next few months.

Be sure to check out that review online at www.e-gear.com or in an upcoming issue of E-Gear Magazine.

  1. how does it compare to the samsung? what resolution does is show netflixs? does it decode dts master audio or just output the signal? how’s the audio sound on a 7.1 system? how is it differnt from the 390? did you review it on a 24Hz tv or 60 Hz? any difference?
slumdog has kinda a washed out, gritty picture. seems a strange choice to evaluate a player with. how’d it do on test patterns?
