CBS, the network behind this year’s more-successful-than-ever March Madness On Demand, is considering making next year’s Super Bowl the first ever to stream online. That’s according to a BusinessWeek report this week on CBS’ lucrative success with online streaming of sports properties.
According to the magazine CBS Sports cleared $30 million this year from advertising revenue on its online broadcasts of the NCAA mens’ basketball tournament, and also found great success from its recent streaming of the Masters. Now, CBS is attempting to persuade the NFL to allow similar streaming of next February’s Super Bowl, of which it holds broadcast rights.
While CBS holds the rights to the NCAA tournament and Masters, the Super Bowl broadcast is rotated among CBS, NBC and Fox.
