Blockbuster announced another major partnership Tuesday, reaching a deal with TiVo to both rent and sell its movies through the time-shifting service starting later this year.
Rival Netflix already has a deal in place with TiVo, but Blockbuster’s will make new releases available sooner after their release. The technology will be available in TiVo Series2, Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL DVR devices. The TiVo devices will also be sold at Blockbuster locations as part of the deal.
"We are excited to be teaming with TiVo, the company that created the DVR, to make Blockbuster’s entertainment content readily available to their millions of subscribers," Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes said as part of the announcement.
