Employees at Office Depot have been pressured to sell protection plans and other add-ons to laptop computers- to the point where they sometimes tell customers who refuse them that their desired computers are out of stock. That’s according to an investigative report published last week by Laptop Magazine, which cited multiple employees of the company.
Multiple employees told the magazine, in both the original report and a followup published Tuesday, that while it is not company policy to do so, sales associates are encouraged to sell the product protection plans and Tech Depot services to at least 30 percent of customers- to the point where they turn away business from some customers who reject such services.
Laptop also reported that Office Depot has since sent an internal memo, to remind employees that they should not lie to customers about laptop stocks.
