Maxell has partnered with the candy company Mars and will introduce stereo earbuds designed to look like its famed M&M candies.
The earbuds will sell for $9.99 and will reach retail showrooms by Valentines’ Day, Gordon Tetreault, Maxell’s director of accessory product sales and marketing, said at CES.
“This type of promotion has legs to attach both to kids and also has the nostalgia elements necessary for success with adults,” he said.
Other Maxell products slated to hit the market in Q1, he added, include: a reintroduced stereo headphones line with downsized, “greener” packaging that reduced the product display footprint by about 30 percent; the HP22 MP3 cellphone headphone adapter ($6.99); the line of Kids Safe headphones, which restrict maximum decibel level to 90dB ($12.99); and an Action Sports headphone line whose packaging mimics the popular Under Armour brand of sports clothing ($19-$24 range).
Additionally, Maxell is entering the HDMI cable category with a Version 1.3 line whose two models are priced at $24.99 to $39.99, for four-foot and eight-foot lengths, respectively.
