The New York Yankees have separated themselves from the rest of Major League Baseball once again.

The 26-time world champion team has announced a deal with Sony in which it will outfit its new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium in the Bronx with more than 500 LCD TVs. In addition to the TVs, the deal includes stadium signage, a 30-second Sony ad that will air on the scoreboard prior to games, as well as Vaio and PlayStation kiosks throughout the stadium.

One of Sony’s competitors, Sharp, however, is the Official HDTV of Major League Baseball. One of the Yankees’ pitchers, Joba Chamberlain, even appeared as one of many big leaguers at Sharp’s CES booth last week.

In a statement announcing the deal, the team referred to a trio of high-priced free agent players also signed in recent weeks: “Another deal the New York Yankees solidified this off season — in addition to Sabathia, Burnett and Teixeira — is an agreement centering on a corporate marketing and high-definition (HD) technology relationship with Sony Electronics, which is sure to deliver a high-quality, HD experience for fans.”

The Yankees had earlier announced a deal with Cisco to provide wiring to the new ballpark, which opens in April.
