JVC Co. of America upped the ante on ways to hang a flat-panel TV on Friday at Las Vegas’ Caesar’s Palace during the Consumer Electronics Show, with the unveiling of a 32-inch, .28-inch-deep, 11-pound Ultra Slim backlit LED LCD prototype endowed with a magnet-based mounting system that holds the panel on the wall.

The set, which may reach market in Japan in the fall, according to JVC Americas Corp. president and CEO Mike Saito, uses a new optical system and modular LCD construction, and consumes about 50 percent less material and about 10 percent fewer LCD module parts than other similarly sized displays.

Also shown was a prototype HD camcorder with a 9-megapixel sensor.

The company made a bevy of other product introductions that “focus on entertainment integration and fill untapped market niches,” said Craig Geiger, executive vice president and COO.

Among those products:

* Models that represent the entry by JVC into the small-screen combo segment of the TV business, to capitalize on secondary flat-panel market demand opportunities;
• The company’s first 3.1-channel audio sound bar system product (TH-SB100), consisting of a speaker array, wireless subwoofer and a built-in BD-Live Blu-ray player (May; $699);
• The UX-GN6 button-free 120-watt tabletop audio system ($199) that can integrate iPods and whose sensor “wakes up” the system when a hand is waved in front of it;
• A super-thin, backlit LCD TV with a “layout free tuner” and a fully finished back panel whose power consumption is so low that it does not need heat ventilation, and that is designed for worldwide use (120 or 240 volts).
