Philips’ Consumer Lifestyle Group took the wraps off a raft of A/V multimedia, portable A/V, connected audio, iPod/MP3 docking solutions, headphones, DECT phones and PC peripherals in a pre-CES line show Dec. 16.

Wieger Deknatel, senior director of customer marketing for Philips’ audio multimedia and portable video categories, said that future product offerings would include expansion of Philips’ portables portfolio, some new Rhapsody-enabled products and more iPod docking stations. He added that the company’s acquisition of Digital Lifestyle Outfitters (DLO) would lead to the marketing of products bundles and “build our leadership in peripherals and accessories.”

Some products highlights included:

• Two USB 2.0 devices: the GoGear Spark (available this month), a square, Rhapsody-optimized portable audio player with 1.5-inch color display at under $50 for the 2GB version, and the LUXE ($89.99; January), with Bluetooth connectivity and an LCD strip that shows track information and caller information;

•  The DCM580 iPod Docking Entertainment Center ($229.99; May), a system that showcases a “floating” iPhone or iPod at its
top with soft blue backlighting atop a tower containing a slot-loading CD player, 100 watts of amplification and a full loudspeaker complement;

• The DC315 Docking Alarm Clock ($79.99; April), a device that plays iPhone, iPod or iTouch content and that has a gently increasing volume feature; and

• The self-contained, football-sized, round-footprint CTS4000 CinemaOne Compact Home Theater System, with iPod/iTouch dock, a built-in DVD/CD player, a four-channel amplifier and an integrated subwoofer, along with 1080p upscaling capability via HDMI connection ($299; Q1).

The exhibition was the company’s first since Funai Electric established a subsidiary for the sourcing, distribution and marketing of the Philips and Magnavox TV brands in North America and then added Blu-ray, DVD and home cinema to the roster of product categories for which it would license the brands.

Andy Mintz, Philips Consumer Lifestyles senior vice president, who is working on enabling the transition, effective Jan. 1, 2009, commented that it would be “ready to go.”

He added, “Philips hasn’t lost a beat in the marketplace in TVs,” and said that P&F, the newly established Funai subsidiary, would have an exhibition space at the Renaissance Hotel near the Las Vegas Convention Center during next month’s International CES.
