Since the launch of the iPhone, Apple has been pushing its gaming functions, in advertising and elsewhere, to the point where some have asked whether it considers itself a rival to established gaming brands.
Now, it appears, Apple itself is taking that line. According to Engadget, Apple executive John Geleynse, speaking at an Apple evente last week, referred to the iPhone as "a gaming console" and as "not a phone, [but] a console experience." This indicates that the company plans to position the iPhone as, among other things, a rival to the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.
