Recognizing that not all cell phone users are alike, Scosche Industries, an innovator of mobile electronic aftermarket accessories, is offering several different solutions for consumers seeking to comply with new laws requiring drivers to use hands-free phone devices. In California, the law took effect July 1; other states enacting similar regulations include Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Washington. For those seeking the simplest option, Scosche offers two models of Bluetooth speakerphones that are mounted on a car visor like a garage door opener. They are the chitCHAT (CBHV5), a new version of the older non caller-ID model CBHV ($79.95). The chitCHAT has a high-output speaker with a DSP echo cancellation software to ensure a clear conversation even in the noisiest vehicles. An adjustable caller ID screen displays who is calling and battery life. The device includes a car charger and USB cable for home charging.
The next level is Scosche’s plug-and-play Bluetooth car kit, the MotorMOUTH (DIYBRH), which recently won the Consumer Electronics Show Innovations Award. Designed specifically for newer vehicles and aftermarket stereos with MP3/ AUX input jacks, the kit is an easy solution to hear calls through a car stereo. With no installation required, the MotorMOUTH includes a receiver and 3.5mm connector. The unique Bluetooth receiver plugs into any vehicle’s 12-volt charger eliminating the need to recharge the unit. As a call comes through to a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone, a user can either manually answer the call using the push-to-talk button, or a call can be automatically answered on the cell phone itself. Once the call is answered, users will hear the caller through their car speakers. When the call is complete, the call is disconnected, and the music will automatically turn back on. The Scosche motorMOUTH is A2DP-capable for streaming audio from any A2DP-enabled device including iPod/MP3 players with Bluetooth transmitters and A2DP enabled cell phones.
The integrated microphone features DSP Echo Cancellation for crystal clear cell phone communication. Scosche’s new BlueFusion OEM (original equipment manufacturer) integration interface works through the vehicle’s factory radio to deliver Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio. Advanced capabilities include caller ID display on a factory screen with easy “answer” and “end call” buttons located on the steering wheel controls or assigned buttons on a factory radio. Scosche’s smart interface will also switch itself to the correct source to view the caller ID, even while the driver is listening to a CD or radio station. The interface menu enables users to check missed calls, dialed calls, and with select phones have full access to the phone book. Installation of BlueFusion can be easily completed with a simple plug-and-play harness. The chitCHAT, is available for $109.99. The motorMOUTH Bluetooth Car Kit sells for $99.99. BlueFusion is available for $299-$399, depending on options.
