Pentax-K-3-ReviewPentax’s most advanced enthusiast DSLR—now marketed by Ricoh Imaging—is engineered to set your photography free with its amazing imaging performance and user flexibility.

The K-3 touts 24 megapixels in an APS-C-size sensor, continuous shooting at an incredible 8.3 frames per second so you won’t miss even the most extreme action, and the world’s first user-selectable anti-aliasing filter. The filter gives you the ability to easily toggle anti-aliasing functionality on or off, so you can choose to shoot for supreme resolution. This breakthrough technology eliminates the need for you to commit to either high resolution or superior moiré control, by providing both options in a single camera body.

The K-3 will power your pictures using its new top-tier SAFOX11 autofocus module with an expanded light sensitivity range for low-light shooting performance and sharp, low-noise photos. And, the Pentax-original SR (shake reduction) stabilization system is built right into the body, which is compatible with any of the 27 million Pentax lenses ever produced. How’s that for creative freedom!

The camera also employs a low-profile optical viewfinder that gives you 100% field of view and .95 magnification for the ultimate framing accuracy. You’ll benefit from a broader image field, enhanced focus, and composition confirmation to take your vision to reality. You can also compose on the camera’s wide-angle, 3.2-inch TFT color LCD, which allows for brightness, saturation, and color adjustment.

For professional-quality movies, the K-3 records Full HD 1080p video in the H.264 format (60p/50p/30p/24p) and offers the ability to switch from still image to video recording with the flip of a switch. It’s equipped with a headphone terminal and stereo microphone terminal for external microphone connection, and you can adjust the audio recording level manually and monitor sound levels during recording.

Other features include: ISO settings from 100–51,200; in-camera HDR (high dynamic range) capture for improved contrast and definition; support for Pentax PEF and Adobe DNG 14-bit RAW files; a customizable RAW/Fx button for easy access to common shooting settings; and an HDMI port that outputs high-definition images and video as well as sound to HDTVs. The K-3 also boasts a fully weather-sealed, cold-proof magnesium alloy body built to resist water, fog, snow, sand, and dust—so you’ll get top performance even in extreme field conditions.

For the ultimate in wireless functionality, the K-3 uses Pentax’s new FLU card SDHC technology, which gives you complete remote camera control and ease of image transfer. With the 16-gigabyte FLU card inserted in one of the camera’s dual SD memory cards slots, you can remotely change settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, shift the AF focus point, release the camera shutter, check the live-view image, and browse and download images to mobile devices and PCs. Eye-Fi wireless and standard SDX memory cards are also compatible. $1,649.95 with DA 18–135mm WR kit lens. us.ricoh-imaging.com
