Olympus Unveils Next-Generation of Rugged Tough-Series Cameras

Center Valley, PA—Olympus Imaging America debuted the latest duo in its durable, rugged Tough series: the TG-610 and TG-310. Both ship in February 2011.

The TG-610 is engineered to be waterproof to a depth of 16 feet, built to withstand a five foot drop and is freezeproof to 14° F. Add to that a 720p HD movie mode and a variety of creative “magic” filters, and the adventurous are set to preserve their exploits! Also featured are a 28–140mm equivalent zoom lens and Wi-Fi card compatibility for wireless transferring images. The TG-610 will come in a choice of four body colors—black, silver, blue or red. $299.

The TG-310 is waterproof to 10 feet, shockproof to handle a 5-foot fall and freezeproof to 14° F. It also features HD movie recording, magic filters and Wi-Fi card support but uses a 28–102mm equivalent zoom lens. It will be offered in blue, silver, orange, red and white versions. $199.

The cameras feature a 3D photo mode that captures two shots of a scene from two different angles to create still photos that can be viewed with the realism of 3D; in-camera panorama stitching; AF tracking, which tracks a moving subject automatically and keeps it in focus for optimal image quality; dual image stabilization; and face detection. And to view the HD video shot with this pair on an HDTV, consumers just have to connect the camera to an HDTV with an optional HDMI cable. With HDMI Control, they can use their HDTV’s remote to control playback functions and navigate the camera’s menus from the comfort of their living room couch.
