Valhalla, NY—Fujifilm North America extended its S-series line of SLR-styled cameras with the FinePix S2950, S3200 and S4000 long zooms. The 14 megapixel cameras offer Fujinon 18x, 24x and 30x zoom lenses, respectively, as well as dual image stabilization.
These new cameras have 3.0-inch LCDs, with the S2950 and S3200 at 230K and the S4000 at 460K, electronic viewfinders, plus a number of image and social features to allow enthusiasts and professionals the ability to shots up close, wide and far away.
“For today’s educated digital camera consumer, the demand for photographic tools allowing them to take sharp pictures and movies quickly on-the-go, in any light condition, and at any distance, is growing,” said David Troy, director, Marketing, Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging, Fujifilm North America Corp. “We’re excited to offer these consumers the FinePix S2950, S3200 and S4000, giving them Fujifilm’s superior image quality and long zoom capabilities in a compact and affordable way.”
The FinePix S2950 packs an 18x zoom with a wide-angle 28–504mm equivalent Fujinon optical lens in a simple-to-operate zoom lever, for shooting stills or movies. To combat blurring from both hand-shake and subject movement, it combines a mechanically stabilized sensor and high ISO.
The FinePix S3200 and S4000 also include dual-image stabilization CCD sensors and high ISO sensitivity, but they have even greater zoom capabilities. The S3200 boasts a super-wide 24x zoom with a 24–576mm equivalent optical lens and the S4000 provides a 30x zoom with a super-wide 24–720mm equivalent optical lens.
All three also feature a motion panorama shooting mode, which takes three successive shots with a tool that automatically releases the shutter once the images are fully aligned to seamlessly stitch the shots together in-camera.
In addition the trio can record 720p high-definition movies with sound at 30 frames per second with one touch. With a mini-HDMI output connector, users can connect the cameras to view images on an HDTV (cable not included).
Other shared functions are smile and blink detection. Smile detection recognizes the moment a subject smiles and releases the shutter only when this happens; blink detection warns you if any subjects have blinked so the photo can be retaken. The S3200 and S4000 also provide face recognition; when a user tags and names eight favorite subjects, the camera will automatically recognize that person in every photo taken thereafter. In turn this allows users to search all their pictures of any of these people by name, using the image search function found on all three cameras. Image search works with the cameras’ SR auto scene recognition, which registers whether a picture has been taken of a person or a landscape, or if it’s a night shot or macro shot, so users can filter searches by subject matter or date.
Other features include:in-camera tagging capabilities for Facebook and YouTube, to select photos/movies for uploading; tracking autofocus, whichtracks fast-moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur; i-Flash intelligent flash;continuous shooting at 8 fps for 20 frames in S mode; full manual controls; and instant zoom/zoom bracketing. The instant zoom function captures moving subjects at high zoom settings. After zooming on a subject, a single button gives an additional 1.4x or 2x digital zoom. Zoom Bracketing automatically captures the same image three times with zoom ratio settings of 1x, 1.4x and 2x with a single shutter release.
Fujifilm’s FinePix S2950, S3200 and S4000 have the following respective MSRPs: $229.95; $249.95; and $279.95. fujifilmusa.com
