San Diego, CA—Sony introduced a range of accessories to complement its Alpha series cameras, including an external flash with quick-shift bounce. All four will be available this summer.
HVL-F43AM Flash. With an output of GN 43 (105mm ISO100 m), this compact flash is optimized for all Sony A-mount cameras. As on the HVL-F58AM, a quick-shift bounce system allows flash head position to be adjusted instantly when switching between horizontal and vertical compositions—to maintain consistent shadow positions regardless of camera orientation and allow for natural-looking ‘bounce’ effects.
Further, wireless ratio control makes it easier to select light emission ratios for up to three separate flash units. This function helps enable the creation of multipoint lighting effects without the need for complex professional equipment. And, flash power levels are switchable in 22 increments, from 1/1 to 1/128 level in 1/3 steps. Other features include a 2.9-sec recycling time and operation via an LCD screen and direction buttons. $350.
VCT-55LH Bracket. Providing space for mounting additional ISO cold shoe accessories, this useful add-on bracket for all Sony A-mount cameras can also be used with E-mount cameras, such as the NEX-5/NEX-3 and the Handycam NEX-VG10E HD camcorder. Other accessories—like a shotgun microphone—can be mounted while the camera’s main shoe is occupied. $50.
LCS-AMB Soft Carrying Case. Designed to protect an A-mount camera and attached standard zoom lens while traveling, the case provides a suspended partition that cradles the camera while allowing access. Finished in black polyester, it can be slung over a shoulder using the supplied strap, carried by the grab handle or attached to a belt. It also has pockets with space for two extra batteries, a memory card and lens cap. $50.
ALC-SH111 Lens Hood. Compatible with DT 35mm f/1.8 SAM and 85mm f/2.8 SAM lenses, this round-profile hood shades from direct sunlight to prevent glare and lens flare. $20. sony.com
