‘How I Met Your Mother’ Gets Ninth Season

Ted Mosby’s kids will be sitting on that couch for at least one more year.

The CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother will return next year for a ninth and  final season, Deadline reported Friday night. The renewal followed contentious negotiations in which Jason Segel, eager to move on to movies full time, was reportedly the final holdout.

Ironically, the news will likely come as a disappointment to many of the show’s hardcore fans, who are eager for a resolution to the series’ central mythology. It’s unclear whether the mother character will be introduced at the very end of the series, or at some point before that.
