The subject of summer camp has always been under-represented in popular culture. Aside from the early ’90s NIckelodeon series “Salute Your Shorts,” there’s never been a TV show about summer camp, and only a handful of movies (“Meatballs,” “Wet Hot American Summer,” and various horror films.)
But that’s about to change. NBC has ordered a pilot for a series called “Camp,” a 13-episode comedy/drama set at a summer camp. According to Deadline, the premise is that “parents decompress with gin while teenagers make gleeful mischief and fall in and out of love.” If this is any way resembles a camp version of Freaks & Geeks, then I’m sold for sure.
The show comes from creator Liz Heldens and producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, the same team behind NBC’s upcoming series “Deception.”
