Whether you love Wes Anderson’s work or hate it, you must admit the man knows his way around a movie soundtrack.
“Rushmore” and “Royal Tenenbaums” had two of the best soundtracks ever, combining scores by Mark Mothersbaugh and a healthy helping of ’60s pop songs. Anderson’s underrated “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” had those Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs, and I’ve been known to listen to Mothersbaugh’s instrumental theme song, “Loquasto International Film Festival,” over and over again. “Fantastic Mr. Fox” left out the pop but had a superlative score by Alexandre Desplat, who returns for the new film.
The new soundtrack combines Desplat’s score, a couple of Leonard Bernstein compositions, and multiple songs by Hank Williams (Senior.) The full listing is here.
