Comedian Kevin Hart earned laughs during the BET Awards with his Real Husbands of Hollywood sketches. They were a parody of the hit Real Housewives reality shows and the drama they’re famous for. Hart teamed with “Real Hollywood Husbands” including Nick Cannon and Bobby Brown for sketches that got viewers talking. BET and Hart think there’s a lot of potential there, and so Real Husbands of Hollywood is now a real BET show.
The comic told S2S Magazine he thinks Real Husbands can be to BET what Chapelle’s Show was to Comedy Central. It’s a series of comedy sketches done as if it were an actual reality show about being married to a celebrity. Joining Hart in the series are Robin Thicke, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, JB Smoove and Nick Cannon. The America’s Got Talent host was a focal point of the original sketches, as Kevin Hart tried to explain why he had a “Mariah” tattoo. Cannon’s celebrity wife is A-list diva and new American Idol judge Mariah Carey. This storyline looks like it will continue, as Carey will appear on the show. She joins boxer Shane Mosley among the celebrities who are stopping by.
Hart cites Curb Your Enthusiasm and its faux Hollywood as an influence on him. So it’s no coincidence Curb alum JB Smoove is one of the comedians who will help lampoon celeb culture in this show. Real Husbands debuts January 15 at 9 p.m. central. It’s the lead in for another show BET has high hopes for, Second Generation Wayans. It’s a scripted show based on the real lives of Damien Dante Wayans and Craig Wayans, who are trying to make their own name in the entertainment industry.
