Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man tells the story of Yorick Brown, a young man who (along with his monkey Ampersand) survives a plague that appears to have killed all male mammals on Earth. A movie adaptation has been rumored for a while now, but has taken one step closer to actually happening. Dan Trachtenberg has earned the coveted gig of directing the movie. This would be his first feature film. His biggest known work previously was “No Escape,” a fan film based on the video game Portal.
The short got one million views in its first day on YouTube and went on to get more than 11 million views. He has also directed commercials for Lexus, Nike and Coca-Coca. What may have sealed the deal was his unabashed love for the cult comic, which he has discussed on his podcast The Totally Rad Show.
Trachenberg certainly captured the imagination of Portal’s devotees with “No Escape.” New Line Cinema is hoping he can do the same for Y: The Last Man. Now the next thing I’m eager to hear about is some casting details.
