Here’s your box office report for this past weekend, complete with snarky commentary.
.)Zero Dark Thirty, $24M–My prediction for an upcoming Bret Easton Ellis tweet, if it hasn’t happened already: “The only reason ZD30 made money is because Kathryn Bigelow is a really hot woman.”
.) A Haunted House, $18.8M–Do you realize America is in its third decade of tolerating Marlon Wayans?
.) Gangster Squad, $16.7M. A disappointing debut for the long-delayed crime-drama, which I’m a little skittish about seeing. My big reservation: Emma Stone, who I love, looks like she’s playing dress-up in the previews. She’s not quite ready for Lauren Bacall roles yet.
.) Django Unchained, $11.1M–I didn’t watch a ton of the Golden Globes last night, but I caught one fantastic moment: When the cameras cut to the nominees during Ben Affleck’s victory speech for best director, Quentin Tarantino looked enraged. And he had every right to be.
.)Les Misérables, $10.1M–Tom Hooper must be furious that David O.Russell got the Oscar nomination for most directing but he didn’t.
