Matthew McConaughey in “Mud”
Matthew McConaughey had quite a year in 2012, delivering standout performances in “Bernie,” “Killer Joe,” and perhaps “Magic Mike.” He looks to keep the streak going in the new year with “Mud,” a new thriller from “Take Shelter” director Jeff Nichols.
McConaughey plays a drifter, on the run from bounty hunters, who comes into the orbit of two teenagers in a small Southern town. Reese Witherspoon, Ray McKinnon and Sarah Paulson also appear, as does “Take Shelter” star Michael Shannon. Here’s the trailer:
The film, which was well-received at the Cannes Film Festival last year, opens in April.
