Fox has pulled the promising the but low-rated sitcom Ben and Kate from its Tuesday night schedule, effective immediately, TV Line’s Michael Ausiello reported Wednesday.
The series, starring Dakota Johnson as a young single mom and Nat Faxon as her charming, ne’er-do-well brother, debuted last fall to positive reviews but so-so ratings. The show was part of a Tuesday sitcom block, with Raising Hope, New Girl and The Mindy Project, which replaced the dramas that Fox has typically run on Tuesday night.
In its place, the network will run an extra episode of Raising Hope each week through February.
The pulling of the show does not mean immediate cancellation; a “Fox insider” quoted by Ausiello stated it will return at a later date.
I watched the show and always found it likable, especially its leads, although I never found the show all that funny. Johnson- daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, and the girl in “The Social Network” who tells Justin Timberlake about Facebook- and Faxon -who won an Oscar for co-writing “The Descendants”- are both strong screen presences who I expect to rebound successfully.
