Perhaps Lifetime viewers were ready for edgier fare. Maybe they wanted a show that took them inside the world of illegal massage parlors. There’s always the captivating power of Jennifer Love Hewitt and her assets. Whatever the reason, Lifetime drama The Client List has earned pickup for a 15-episode second season.
The Hewitt vehicle is a major component of Lifetime’s decision to back away from weepy movies. The network intends to replace them with the racier type of stuff seen on channels such as AMC. The Client List, which originally debuted as a 2010 Lifetime movie, stars Hewitt as Riley Parks. After her husband abandons the family, she discovers the spa she works at offers sexual favors for high-paying clients. Our Eric Deamer reviews the show here.
Its April launch brought in 2.8 million viewers, the best debut for Lifetime since 2009’s Drop Dead Diva. Cybill Shepherd and Loretta Devine also star. Since Lifetime’s pulling away from the movies that made it famous, I guess we’ll never get that sequel to Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?
