Several TV shows that ended their runs have picked things back up in comic book form, such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel. Now The X-Files will join that group through a partnership between IDW Publishing and 20th Century Fox.
The Fox show dealt with various paranormal mysteries and was all about unanswered questions. Thus it left quite a few after getting cancelled, and after its 2008 movie “The X-Files: I Want To Believe.” In addition to new adventures, IDW will reprint some of the well-received issues from other comic companies’ incarnations.
IDW has a lot of experience handling beloved sci-fi properties. It also does books based on Doctor Who and Star Trek. The smaller budgets and creative freedoms of the comic industry allow more stories from our favorite characters. They also permit things that wouldn’t ever happen on TV or film, such as a recent crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
There has been a lot of talk about another X-Files movie, but things just haven’t happened. Now fans of Mulder and Scully will be able to get their fix on a regular basis.
