The Oscar-winning actors and “Broadcast News” co-stars – no word yet on Albert Brooks – will have key supporting roles in the four-hour mini-series, which will air simultaneously on History and Lifetime.
Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, of course, has more details:
Hunter will play Bonnie’s mother, Emma Parker. After Emma’s husband died when Bonnie was only four, Emma moved with her three children to Dallas to find work as a seamstress. Hurt will play Frank Hamer, the Texas ranger credited with tracking down and killing Bonnie and Clyde.
Andreeva writes that actors for the Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow roles have not been signed. Those poor souls have big shoes to fill. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway’s careers are defined by their work in Arthur Penn’s 1967 classic.
Now, in a perfect world, Jennifer Lawrence and Joseph Gordon-Levitt would star but (sadly) that probably won’t happen. The casting of Hurt and Hunter shows that the folks behind this production know the value of talent. Another good sign: Bruce Beresford (“Tender Mercies,” “Driving Miss Daisy”) is directing.
