Valentine’s Day is a time to snuggle up to your true love, and pretend to play classic rock on a plastic guitar. Harmonix’s Rock Band Music Store is adding a selection of 80s power ballads February 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Extreme’s “More Than Words,”  Nazareth’s “Love Hurts,” Peter Cetera’s “Glory of Love,” REO Speedwagon’s “Keep on Loving You,” and Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” are all inbound.

These songs will be available for play on the PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. You can play them on Rock Band 3, or guitar controller free arcade title Rock Band Blitz on Xbox Love and PlayStation Network. Every “More Than Words” download will feature a pro guitar upgrade.

A persistent critique of music games is that they don’t actually teach you how to play music. I have never been sure why this is a big deal. Nobody feels compelled to remind me that I am not really a quarterback when I play Madden NFL,  or that I’m not a plumber when I play Super Mario Bros. Still, Harmonix added a “pro mode”  it says will teach players real instrument skill. All 83 songs on Rock Band 3 have Pro Guitar, Pro Bass, and Pro Drums parts, and all songs with keys have Pro Keys parts.

In addition to the Pro Guitar part for “More Than Words,”  “Glory of Love,” “Tainted Love,” and “Keep On Lovin’ You,” feature Pro Keys support. These new tunes are $1.99 USD, £1.19 UK,  €1.49 EU, 160 Microsoft Points or 200 Wii Points per song. Pro Guitar/Pro Bass Upgrades are $0.99 USD, 80 MP, 100 WP,  £0.59 UK or €0.79 EU per song.

So go ahead and download, lovers of music and of other people. Because this is a downloadable content pack that will fight for your honor, and be the hero you’re dreaming of.
