His political career derailed by an affair and secret lovechild, “Ahh-nold” is going to back to what he does best. That would be blowing things up on the big screen. Schwarzenegger will take on a starring role in “Ten,” an action flick directed by David Ayer, a writer on “S.W.A.T.” and “Training Day.”
This movie tells the story of a very corrupt DEA task force. They steal millions of drug money and think they’ve gotten away with it. Then members of the task force start turning up dead. Open Road Films will distribute. In addition to “Ten,” the actor has “The Tomb” in the works as well as reprising his role in this summer’s “The Expendables 2.”
There are a couple of challenges to Arnie’s comeback. Will audiences still embrace him after knowing about all his indiscretions? Also, he’s 64 years old. Will Schwarzenegger still be able to “erase” the bad guys and not look washed up in the process?
“The Expendables” showed older action stars can still draw an audience to the right project. A cast like something out of fan fiction put Sly Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnie together alongside Jason Statham and Jet Li. The sequel will add fellow aging action heroes Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme. Willis is certainly doing his part for the AARP action set. He has another “Die Hard” in the works and features prominently in this summer’s “G.I. Joe Retaliation.”
The former Governator is also using the time-honored trick of doing sequels to previous hits. He’s reportedly working on a follow-up to 1988 comedy “Twins.”
