“Broadway Idiot,” an inside look at how singer Billie Joe Armstrong went from pop-punk music to Broadway, will debut next month at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival. It’s one of two Green Day documentaries on the way. The other, “¡CUATRO!,” a companion to their recent albums “Uno!,” “Dos!” and “Tres!,” will also show at South by Southwest.
“American Idiot” was Green Day’s seventh studio album, which came out in 2004 and was their best-selling and most critically acclaimed work. A concept album/rock opera, telling the stories of characters Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy and Whatsername, the story was soon adapted for the stage, arriving on Broadway in 2010.
