It’s a more serious, less techy version of “Sneakers,” y’all!

That’s what the trailer for Robert Redford’s latest, “The Company You Keep,” resembles. Redford, who also directed, plays an in-hiding ’70s radical whose exposure by a newspaper reporter (Shia LaBeouf) leads to a nationwide manhunt.

Well, the cast certainly is impressive–Sam Elliott, Julie Christie, Nick Nolte’s rasp, Brit Marling’s blonde indifference–but isn’t Redford getting a little old for these kinds of rough-and-tumble roles where he scales fences and has an 11-year-old daughter? The Sundance Kid himself turns 77 in August.

At the very least, let’s hope “The Company You Keep,” opening April 5, isn’t as politically preachy as Redford’s last two directorial efforts, “Lions for Lambs” or “The Conspirator.” The cast here is top-notch and the story does have dramatic potential.
