The adaptation of “Motherlovers” we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived.
Actually, that’s not true. “Two Mothers” is based on Doris Lessing’s novel, and it appears to be a very serious drama centering on two longtime Australian friends (Naomi Watts and Robin Wright) who get intimately involved with each other’s sons.
Wow, this looks good. Let’s count the ways.
First, I’m for any film that gives Watts and Wright–two excellent actresses–work. Two, it’s nice to see the younger men hunger for the older women and not in a cutesy, Nancy Meyers way. Third, there’s a sense of relief in a giant Hollywood studio not getting its mitts on this. “You’re sleeping with my mom…It’s a MILF-Off, bro!”
Anyway, here’s the preview, which is NSFW and has French subtitles. The title of the film, according to IMDB, is “Two Mothers,” not “Perfect Mothers.” As far as I can tell there is no U.S. release date set for the film, which played at last month’s Sundance Film Festival.
I prefer “The MILF-Off,” actually.
