Frears May Direct Freddie Mercury Biopic

Hey, remember that biopic of the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, that was announced a couple of years ago? There hasn’t been any news in quite awhile, but Variety reported Wednesday that Stephen Frears is the “frontrunner” to direct the film. 

The film is still untitled.

I’ve been excited about the project ever since I heard about it, especially since Mercury had one of the most compelling life stories in rock history, and Cohen is a physical match, able to sing the songs, and absolutely willing to go all out in the role. And I can only imagine the concert scenes:

Ironically, Frears directed “The Queen,” and now may be directing a movie about Queen.
