Has anybody revisited “Super Troopers”, lately? There’s a bittersweet poignancy that has engulfed the film since it was released in 2001. When you watch that film nowadays, you’re no longer watching the promising beginning of the next great comedy troupe; you’re watching the only Broken Lizard project that wasn’t uneven or outright terrible.
Considering the sheer unwavering indifference that has greeted “Club Dread,” “Beerfest,” “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “The Slammin’ Salmon”, it was only a matter of time before Broken Lizard finally returned to the “Super Troopers” well. And, apparently, that time is now.
According to GuySpeed, Broken Lizard members Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme have announced plans for a sequel to “Super Troopers.” Heffernan also noted,
We put it off for a while and then came back to it. We wrote the script and handed it in to Fox and now we’re just negotiating the time and the place and hopefully shoot it some time this year. I have to start growing my mustache now.
Although it would be nice to see what characters like Rod Farva have been up to in the past 12 years, the idea also smacks of desperation. Could Broken Lizard recapture the magic of their most beloved film? Their track record says otherwise.
