It’s official, Scott Gimple will be the executive producer and showrunner for Season 4 of The Walking Dead. I want to be happy for Scott. But this series goes through showrunners the way zombies do people that separate from the group.
Gimple is the third in The Walking Dead’s three seasons on AMC. That’s an unusual mortality rate for what has been one of cable’s biggest hits. He replaced Glen Mazzara, who departed after what the network calls a “difference of opinion about where the show should go.”
Gimple began writing for the show last season, quickly earning a name. He penned the heartwrenching Season 2 midseason finale, “Pretty Much Dead Already.” His star isn’t the only one rising among staff. Special Effects Makeup Supervisor and Director Greg Nicotero and producer Tom Luse are now executive producers. Nicotero won an Emmy for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for the Season 2 Premiere “What Lies Ahead.”
Luse has been on board The Walking Dead since day one. He oversees the day-to-day production of the Atlanta-based series.
