I hate premature reboots as much as the next guy, but for some reason last year’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” didn’t bore me to death. And it raked in around $750 million globally, so naturally we’re in for a sequel of a reboot of a comic book adaptation.
Sounds terrible, I know, but Sony Pictures might just pull another miracle. That’s only judging by the cast, which will feature the returning Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen and Sally Field stars, but also very exciting new additions like Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Paul Giamatti and… Chris Cooper.
Cooper has reportedly just signed up for the action-adventure 2014 film, bringing the total number of villains up to three. The Academy Award winner (2003, Adaptation) is going to play Norman Osborn, aka The Green Goblin, a character that featured prominently in the 2002 “Spider-Man” film (then played by Willem Dafoe).
Hmm, Chris Cooper or Willem Dafoe? That’s one question I’m not ready to answer. But I’ll tell you this – the new Spidey will have a lot on his plate going against The Green Goblin, Electro (Jamie Foxx) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti). Now if only Marc Webb could give the movie’s title character some depth…
