Rusty Griswold from the “Vacation” series is all grown up and Ed Helms is going to play him. This story has been bandied about for what seems like years.

Now, it is official.

Collider reports that Helms (“The Hangover,” “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”) has signed on to star in the sequel, which is penned by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The pair wrote “Horrible Bosses” and the upcoming “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.”

The new “Vacation” will mark the pair’s directorial debut. Shooting begins this summer–and there’s a chance Chevy Chase could burn another bridge. Splitsider explains:

Daley also says they’re in talks to have cast members from the previous “Vacation” films back without specifying who, but he mentioned plans to THR (“The Hollywood Reporter”) last year to bring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo onboard to play Clark and Ellen Griswold as meddlesome grandparents. Neither Chase nor D’Angelo have signed on yet.

My guess is that Randy Quaid won’t be involved.
