“Kick-Ass,” from 2010, was one of the most unheralded awesome movies of the past few years. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, and based on a semi-well known comic book about the titular, do-it-yourself superhero, “Kick Ass” had eye candy, action, a bonkers Nicolas Cage performance, a little girl spouting the C-word and a whole lot more. Perhaps best of all, “Kick Ass” knew how to set things up and then later pay them off- a skill in which a whole lot of action blockbusters of late are sadly lacking.
Anyway, now it’s time for “Kick-Ass 2.” The sequel, which comes out this August, brings back Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and this time the villain is Colonel Stars and Stripes, played by… Jim Carrey. Hopefully this works out better than his turn as The Riddler in “Batman Forever.”
