If keeping count of all the superhero flicks part of the “Avengers” franchise was starting to seem hard, wait ’till “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Justice League” will hit cinemas.
And despite what common sense tells us, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is to premiere next year. The film will focus on yet another team of Marvel superheroes, led by characters like Drax the Destroyer, Star-Lord, Bug or Rocket Raccoon.
Unlike The Avengers, the people involved in the “Guardians” project so far are a lot more low-profile, starting with director James Gunn (“Super”) and writers Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. Casting hasn’t begun on a very different tune either, with the Peter Quill/Star-Lord part being handed out to Chris Pratt (“Moneyball”, “Zero Dark Thirty”).
The second actor on board for a “Guardians” role is even lower profile in Hollywood, although sports fans might know a thing or two about him. Born Dave Bautista, this big guy has reached world fame under the “Batista” ring name in professional wrestling.
Outside of WWE, Dave Bautista has guest starred in a Chuck episode and most recently in RZA’s “The Man with the Iron Fists”. In “Guardians of the Galaxy”, the former wrestler will play Drax the Destroyer, which sounds right up this fellow’s alley.
Now this film only needs Adam Sandler cast as the Rocket Raccoon and the project will instantly turn into the weirdest thing since “Daredevil”. But surely it can’t be as terrible as that, can it?
